Talking About Dementia
If symptoms are occurring, for yourself, or for those you love, are you avoiding talking about them?
This issue makes people uncomfortable. Memory lapses can lead to fear, as people consider the gradual worsening that may occur.
"It’s scary to think your loved one might have Alzheimer's disease or another type of dementia," says Magdalena Bednarczyk, MD, a geriatrician at Rush University Medical Center. "But it's important to have that conversation because people experiencing memory changes often don't realize it. Or they know something is wrong, but they're reluctant to tell anyone. Either way, the problem isn't addressed and gets worse."

Dementia & the Numbers
Loss of memory and the ability to think clearly is a global social and health concern. What follows is from the website of Alzheimer's Disease International.
"Someone in the world develops dementia every 3 seconds. There are over 55 million people worldwide living with dementia in 2020. This number will almost double every 20 years, reaching 78 million in 2030 and 139 million in 2050."

There are things you can do today.
Consult your physician
Your physician should be involved in your health choices.
Ask for a Cognitive Function Test.
Symptoms
Make note of any symptoms. These are obvious possibilities, but there could be many others.
- Do you have difficulty remembering words or names?
- Is finding objects difficult?
- Do you get lost?
Lifestyle ~ Each positive change helps!
There are things that you already know will support health. Make changes gradually. And consult with your doctor.
- Eat well
- Get movement
- Get enough sleep
- Drink water
- Etc.
