Take a Break

Do you get to working on tasks and realize after several hours that you have gotten sucked into your computer screen?

Have your neck, shoulders, and back gotten tight? Are your eyes feeling strained?

Sandra Lynn Lee When was the last time you got a drink of water?

Would it feel good to get up for a stretch?

If you are like most people, when you focus on a task for a long time, you actually reach a point where your efficiency and productivity decrease. Taking a break, even for a minute or two, enables you to return to work refreshed.

People tend to suppress their breathing when they are focusing intently. Shallow breathing limits the amount of oxygen that is available to your brain. Breathing more deeply makes it easier for you to concentrate and focus.

Take a break, and allow yourself to move around a bit. Take some nice deep breaths, and drink a glass of water. Look out a window. You will be rewarded with increased clarity.

Meet Pocket Sandra

One of the difficulties people have is that they do not remember to take breaks at the times when they really need them. Pocket Sandra to the rescue!

Years ago, one of my clients said, "I wish I had a Pocket Sandra." They were a SOMA client, and wanted to have me around to remind them to do the things that they had learned were helpful. Over the years, numerous clients have said that they hear my voice in their heads.

Also, over the years, people have come to think of me as the person who reminds them to BREATHE.

I have long dreamed about having Pocket Sandra be a reality. Well, she's finally here! Now, you can hear my voice any time you wish.

I have recorded a short audio file. I thought it appropriate to have Pocket Sandra's first topic be BREATHE.

Download the audio file here (Right-click and choose 'Save Target As'). And look for more audio reminders from Pocket Sandra in the future.

You can write these files to audio CD's, and download them to iPod or MP3 players. Recently, one person said that she wanted to download a picture of me onto her PDA, and play the files from there.

However, I think that Pocket Sandra's perfect venue may well be . . .

Computer Timers

People get so consumed when they are working on the computer. They forget to BREATHE and to move. This is a perfect opportunity for Pocket Sandra.

I recommend downloading a free timer program. The one I like is Tea Timer 1.5.3. It has six preset alarms that you can customize.  You can download it from Download.com.

I have written down my suggestions for how to modify the settings in Tea Timer to play Pocket Sandra's reminders. Download that file here.

Set up Pocket Sandra to play.

Enjoy.

Your Suggestions and Feedback

I would LOVE to have your feedback about Pocket Sandra. After you have used it for a while, let me know if this has been helpful for you. Personally, I have been using the Tea Timer reminders for a few days. I think this is exactly what I've needed for a long time.

Are there particular types of messages that you would like Pocket Sandra to provide? I have a number of ideas, but yours would be appreciated.
